Fort Haskell and a Panorama of the Eastern Front
Decidely not "Fort Meikle." Hiding in plain sight for all of these decades is Fort Haskell, the Union bulwark that disrupted General John Brown Gordon's futile attempt to break through the Union siege lines on March 25, 1865. Fort Stedman, initially overrun in the attack, is in the clump of hardwood trees (Hare House Hill) on the horizon. The authors' identification of this photograph is found here [/fort-haskell-panorama.html]. This image looks north.
At least two other stereographs were taken from the interior of Fort Haskell.
