This view from Confederate Fort Mahone toward the southwest captures the buildings of the Bailey/Johnston [Johnson?] farm as they stood in April, 1865, after the fall of Petersburg. The farm fields south of the fort and the farmstead were fought on during the Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road, June 21-23, 1864, but the buildings were behind Confederate lines and were spared. We post this as an example of the landscape details that emerge when these high definition photographs are tweaked.
